How to Make a Felt Valentine Door Stand-Up card

How CUTE did this turn out??? I saw this card in a magazine maybe a month or two ago. Theirs was different, but it inspired me to make one like it. I included a little tutorial below in case you'd like to try it yourself! Sorry, I don't remember the magazine. It is one a friend had with her. I want to say it was Today's Creative Home... :-(

I tried to show the "frost" on the windows in this picture, but it doesn't show up well because it is white on white, but it is pretty and sparkly in real life....
Okay, so what you need to make this card is....

1) 1 Sheet of patterned paper (to cover the chipboard back)

2) 1 Sheet of chipboard (any kind of heavy paper will do.... even the side of a cereal box)

3) 1 Sheet of pink felt

4) 1 Sheet of white felt

5) 1 Sheet of red felt

6) A heart shaped brad

7) Flower pot (you could make one using a stamp or just cut one out by hand)

8) Bush and flowers (use what you have!)

9) a sewing machine and white thread (you could sew by hand if inclined)

10) glue

11) white glitter

12) a button for the door handle

Step 1
Cut the chipboard to the size you would like your card to be. Mine is 5 in. x 6 in.

Step 2

Cut a "stand" for your card using the leftover chipboard. Mine is 2 inches across the top and 3 inches across the bottom. I made the stand about 1/2 in. shorter than the card so the card will lean back. So, the stand is 4-1/2 inches high. (See the picture)

Step 3

Cut two pieces of the patterned paper to cover the front and back of the chipboard background. Also cut patterend paper to cover the stand. Glue all pieces into place. No chipboard should show.

Step 4

Cut the white background felt for the windows and door. These should be approximately 1-1/2 inches wide x 5 inches high for the windows and 2-3/4 inches wide x 5 inches high for the door.

Step 5

Cut the red felt for the doors and windows. I cut each of these approximately 1/4 inch smaller than the white pieces. So, the windows should be 1-1/4 inches wide and 4-3/4 inches tall

The door is 2- 1/2 inches wide by 4-3/4 inches tall.

Step 6
Cut the pink for the doors and windows. Again, make them 1/4 inches smaller than the red.

Step 7
Cut the little squares for the door. I did 6 that are 3/4 inch x 3/4 inch.
Step 8
Cut the Whites for the windows and doors in the same fashion. The windows should be about 1/4 inch smaller than the pink you cut out. The door window on the top was just eyeballed. I halfed a piece of felt and cut an arch and cut it down until it fit. The width of that at its widest is about an inch and a half.

Okay... now you have your pieces cut out, it is time to start sewing. The main thing to remember is that it gets pretty thick so you should do it in parts.

Step 1

Sew the reds to the white backgrounds first. Be sure to sew fairly close to the edge so that your stitches show nicely. I had to trim some of my felt to make it fit better.

Step 2

Sew the small pink squares and the white windows to the windows and door. Now sew horizontal lines on the white side windows to create window panes.

Step 3
Sew the pink door and windows to the red and hand-sew the button door knob onto the door.

Now you are ready to assemble the whole thing!

Glue the door and windows to the card. I use crafting glue and it sticks just fine. Make a heart from your leftover scraps of red felt and put the brad through the middle of it. Glue the red heart to the door. Add white glitter to the panes of glass on the windows (including the door).
I used Karen-Marie's Laser Cuts (see below) topiaries in front of the dooor. I used pop-dots to put the flowers on the bushes and I painted over the orange flower pots with some Sparkling H2O's to make them look more pink and thereby match the door. Not everyone will be able to find these laser cuts. I found them at our dollar store (!!!) for $1! If you have a flower pot stamp and some flowers, you could make your own cut outs. I then attached them to the card using pop-dots.
Now just glue the stand to the top of the back of the card (align it with the top) and you are finished! Now give it to your Valentine's Day SWEETIE!
Have fun!

Wedding Card

About 8 years ago, I saw this cute little card in a shop in San Diego. I loved it and decided to sketch it out on a piece of paper that was in my purse. I then copied it to my "idea notebook" that I keep in my craftroom. I was cleaning and reorganizing my craft room last week when
I came across that notebook. So, I decided to work out how to make the card. I hand-drew the pictures on it after I figured out how to fold it. I then painted it with watercolors and then traced it in black ink.
Here it is.

And here is a template if you would like it. Be sure to click on the photo so that it opens
larger before you try to print it.

Saturday's Creations

I got a lot done today. I spent all stinkin' day Friday cleaning my house so that I wouldn't feel guilty crafting all day Saturday...(guilt never stops me though). So, today I finished all of these projects. Whew! This is a little white frame I found at the dollar store. It had a second frame inside. I took some scrapbooking paper (the paisley paper) and lined the space between the two frames. Then I cut out these little mary janes from felt and glued them together. Then I glued them to the scalloped paper and rickrack. The flowers on the toes and the buttons are brads. This is a little sign for my dear baby niece who is just 3 months old.

Next, I worked on my cousin's handbag and a surprise gift for ordering. Linda, if you are reading this, don't scroll down any further until you get your package!
I also made some thank you notes for those who have ordered purses.

Lastly, I made my swap card for my card group. Everyone is making cards using the pattern I made up. You can find the free pattern here.
Did you notice a sort of color scheme here? Very Springy...no?

Fun Mail!!!

Don't you just LOVE getting fun stuff in the mail? Especially suprises??? I have gotten two really fun packages this week and they couldn't have been more timely. I have been sick all week with the flu and these have been big, fat pick-me-ups! Check it out!

My friend Sally from Canada sent me a RAK! She knows how much I love bento boxes, so when she saw these adorable rice shapers, she picked them up for me! Isn't that sweet? They showed up today! So, naturally, I had to make sushi rice for dinner so I could shape it. Here's our dinner... Panko-crusted yellow squash, paprika chicken, carrots and shaped sushi rice! AWE! Thank you, Miss Sally!

Oh..and for those of you who don't know what a bento box is, it is a Japanese lunchbox usually done up beautifully. Here are a few examples. I had more, but PSP is stuck and I have to shut it down, so I'll try to show the others later. If you've made a bento, send me pictures! I'd love to see them!

I have been entering all kinds of fun blog give-aways over here. The Secret is In The Sauce is a great website that connects all kinds of fun bloggers. Anyway, I WON an awesome prize from Joy To The Blog that couldn't be more ME! Loads of alpha stamps, some fun papers in calendar form, stickers and such. Very fun!

Here are some pictures! Joy wrapped everything up so that it was adorable to look at and exciting to open. She also made the card in the bottom picture with the dog in the blue wig. LOL! Very cute! Thank you, Joy!

Packaging

I made some fun stuff to send with my first apron order. I made a cute little thank you card with an apron on the front. I used paper from a wallpaper book to make it. I also made the little tag by printing on fabric that matches the apron. I then sewed it to a tag, used some blue satin ribbon and tulle to tie it up. I then hooked the little tag to the apron with a tiny little clothes pin.

The other thing I did (as a surprise) is I made her a coffee cozy to match. Shhhhhhhh!!!!

You can click on the pictures to get a better view.

See the tulle tied to this tag? Also the pink paper behind the apron is tissue paper with black and white flowers on it. That is what I will wrap everything in.

There is also a pouf behind the flowers which are sewn on with a vintage button. I still need to add the Velcro to this... tomorrow.
This is the thank you card.

Yeah! My first customer!!!

Cute Dress Card

Below is a card I made and for which I made a pattern ... also below! I used wallpaper for the dress. It isn't attached to the card yet, but I couldn't wait to get it on my blog. Isn't it cute???

Ballerina Doll and Handmade Pin

Here's the paper doll that I created using a digital scrapbooking kit called Love Bug from Kay Miller Designs. Isn't she cute? There is tulle coming out of the top of her hat which actually bends down behind her now. She is wearing a princess hat. Her tutu is made from two paper flowers and the top of it is made of felt and some crystals. Her hair and hat are made from two hearts which were cut out and turned upside down.

Another fun creation I did this week is a pin made of felt. It is hand stitched, hand painted (the polkadots on pink) and has a pretty vintage button on top and brad polkadots on the leaf. The card is also decorated by me.
